Indoor Air Quality & Microbiology Testing — What We Inspect & Why It Matters

At JLM Environmental, we specialize in identifying indoor air quality issues by testing for airborne allergens, mold, and waterborne bacteria. Through professional on-site inspections and sample collection, we uncover hidden health risks in homes, offices, schools, and commercial buildings.

🧬 Allergen Testing — Invisible Triggers in Your Air

Even if there’s no visible mold, you could still be breathing in allergens like dust mites, fiberglass, pollen, or pet dander — all of which can cause sneezing, itchy eyes, coughing, or respiratory irritation.

We recommend allergen testing when:

  • You're experiencing unexplained allergy symptoms indoors

  • You want to confirm indoor air quality after remediation

  • You’re purchasing or leasing a property and want a baseline air quality report

  • Tenants or employees are reporting air quality complaints

What we test for:

  • Pollen grains

  • Skin cells (human and pet dander)

  • Algae

  • Fiberglass and synthetic fibers

  • Insect fragments and dust mites

  • Cellulose and fabric fibers

We collect samples using specialized cassettes like Air-O-Cell or Allergenco-D, then analyze them under a microscope to identify the source of airborne irritants.

🌱 Mold Cultures — Live Mold, Real Threats

Unlike general spore trap sampling (which collects both dead and live spores), mold cultures grow only viable mold, giving us a clearer picture of what’s actively growing and potentially hazardous in your building.

When to perform mold culture testing:

  • After water damage or flooding

  • If visible mold is present

  • When you're experiencing musty odors with no obvious source

  • To confirm mold species for sensitive individuals or legal documentation

We collect:

  • Air samples using Andersen or BioStage samplers

  • Surface swabs from walls, vents, furniture

  • Bulk samples from drywall, insulation, or flooring

The lab incubates the samples to identify mold types like Aspergillus, Penicillium, Stachybotrys, and others. Results typically take 5–10 days, and rush options are available.

💧 Water Bacteria Testing — Coming Soon!

In partnership with Pinnacle Laboratory, we’ll soon be offering Colilert®/Quanti-Tray™ water testing to detect E. coli and Total Coliforms — essential for drinking water safety, pools, spas, and post-remediation clearance.

Why test water?

  • Ensure drinking water safety (especially from private wells)

  • Check for contamination after plumbing issues or floods

  • Confirm pool/spa water meets health standards

  • Support compliance for daycare centers, schools, and businesses

Colilert® produces color-based results in 24 hours. Yellow water signals coliforms; glowing under UV light indicates E. coli. Quanti-Tray™ quantifies bacteria with EPA-approved methods.

👷‍♂️ Why Choose Us?

We don’t just test — we interpret, explain, and guide you through next steps. Whether it’s allergens, mold, or bacteria, we provide:

  • Thorough on-site inspections

  • Clear explanations of lab results

  • Recommendations for remediation or further testing

  • Rush testing options for urgent needs

  • Peace of mind backed by science
